The Ahua Family
Dr. Emmanuel Ahua:
Dr. Emmanuel Ahua is a native of Gboko, Nigeria. After initially working in a medical setting as a Registered Nurse, he attended Eastern Washington University Cheney, Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health & Safety in 1983. He later attended and obtained a Master of Science degree in Aviation Safety from Central Missouri University Warrensburg, Missouri in 1985. In 1995, he received a doctorate from Indiana University Bloomington in Public Health Education and a minor in Alcohol and Drug Use. Dr. Ahua joined the Department of Public Health at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1994 as an instructor and later as an Assistant Professor. He has since held the following positions: Interim Chair, Department of Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety program Advisor, Graduate Coordinator, and Funded grant Administrator for four projects in the areas of “Safe and Drug free Schools”, Highway traffic safety, Occupant protection, and Child safety seat use. He is currently a tenured faculty with the Department of Public Health.
Mrs. Mary Ahua
Mary is a seasoned clinician with over 30 years of nursing and supervisory experience in various hospitals in the United States. She is a 1977 RN graduate of Vom Christian Hospital School of Nursing with a five year experience in tropical diseases care. After moving to the United States in 1982, she further attended Whitworth University in Spokane Washington, and in 1985, obtained a B.Sc. degree in Health Facilities Management. She has since worked in clinical settings in the United States in areas of patient education, staff supervision, clinical skill testing, and educational development.Currently, Mary is on the staff of a 500-bed Level-1 trauma hospital in Hattiesburg Mississippi.
Ms. Ember Ahua:
Ember Ahua, the eldest of the Ahua children was born in Makurdi, Nigeria. She went to undergraduate school at the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, and a Licensure in Spanish. After graduation, Ms. Ahua accepted a position as a Spanish Teacher in the Hattiesburg School district, while building her own Event Planning company, "By Invitation Only Special Events". Ember has since expanded herself both socially and professionally, as she is a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association, Canebrake Country Club, Hattiesburg Rotary Club, and Graduate of the Pine Belt Young Professionals. Most recently, Ember accepted a position at Southern Eye Center, the largest SubSpecialty Clinic in Mississippi. She currently serves as the Practice Development Director.
Dr. Roselyn Ahua:
Rossie Ahua, the second of the Ahua sisters, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Honors College at the University of Southern Mississippi, with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Spanish. Rossie then continued in her education at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where where she obtained a Bachelor's of Science, and a Doctor of Optometry degree. After graduation, Rossie completed residency at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina, with a concentration on Primary Care and Ocular disease. After residency, Rossie remained in North Carolina, where she joined a private practice Optometry group in Charlotte. At present, Rossie is actively involved in local Optometric Societies and her local church.
Ms. Stacy Ahua
Stacy Ahua, the youngest of the Ahua Children, attended undergraduate school at the University of Southern Mississippi and achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communication and a minor in Spanish. Stacy then went on to pursue her Master's Degree in Communication Studies. While pursuing her Master's, Stacy, a former President of her high school debate team, worked to launch the first competitive Debate team at the University of Southern Mississippi. Stacy also further expanded her skills as a Communctions Specialist through the establishment of her own consulting firm, EMMIT Consulting, LLC, through which she continues work in political advisement, Public Relations and logistics throughout Hattiesburg. Stacy has also recently accepted a position as Program Coordinator for Extra Table, a Non-Profit organization in Hattiesburg that helps to feed the hungry.
